extend the company of flowers 〰️
Think of flowers as friends who you’re hosting: they’ll need some care and attention and in exchange they’ll give you back some love and joy
Fresh flowers are like that friend who’s visiting and you don’t want them to leave… ever!
caring for your flowers
As soon as you get home, trim the ends so they are as long as you need them depending on your vase.
We usually arrange our wraps in a way that they are ready for display. You can just gather all the stems at the bottom and trim them all together.
OR
Play florist! Trim the length of every stem little by little (1/4-1/2in at a time) and arrange them in your vase. Get creative!
1.
Clean all the leaves from the bottom half of each stem. You don’t want any leaf (big or small) touching the water. They get spoiled very fast and they will create bacteria that will kill your flowers prematurely. You can pull them out or use a cloth to clean all the stem, pulling gently while holding the top.
2.
3.
Fill your clean vase with water so stems are 2 inches deep in water.
Place your flowers in the vase.
Grab the bunch and put them all together at once.
OR
Take each stem and play with how they are placed. You can keep on trimming at this point depending on the feel you’re going for.
4.
Enjoy your flowers!!
✦ Now here comes the trick (there is no trick but read along) ✦
Every day you want to:
Grab your flowers with one hand
Water a plantita with the water in the vase
Refill it with fresh water
Put back your flowers
Remove flowers that are wilted or don’t look good anymore
(You’re grabbing them all the same time to try to keep them arranged or keep on playing!)
5.
Every OTHER day you want to:
Take your flowers out of the vase
Rinse the vase with soap
Trim your flowers about 1/2in to give the stem a fresh viaduct to continue to absorbe water
Compost flowers that look very wilted We don’t want them to decompose in the clean water
6.
If you don’t have time for all the steps and can only do a quick check in with them every other day, the most important thing is to change the water and remove the leaves that are touching the water.
✦ Pro-tip
These caring steps will not only extend the life of your flowers, they will also give you an opportunity to spend time with them and appreciate them in a different way.
